The full liquid diet is a temporary transition phase between clear liquids and the soft food diet. It is a diet to keep your body hydrated and to help get your body ready for food after surgery. Consume a small amount at first and see how your stomach handles it. You can continue to sip fluids all day with this phase as well. It is important to note whether your protein drink is soy or whey protein based. Some patients may not tolerate one and may want to switch to the other. Remember your goal is to take in 60-70 grams of protein and 64 oz. of fluids per day. In drinking the protein drinks, you are well on your way to fulfilling both goals. You may also continue to have all the items under the clear liquid diet as well.
NOTE: Avoid Tomato soup first couple of weeks due to acid production.
