Successful Weight Loss Starts With Goals

Successful Weight Loss Starts With Goals

What are your weight loss goals?

That’s a question I ask every single patient who walks through our doors. And it’s a very important question. And the answers they give will determine their success at achieving those goals.

Hi, I’m Dr. Guillermo Alvarez a Mexican bariatric weight loss surgeon and chief educator here at Endobariatric and I want to share with you how to be successful at losing weight with goals.

Saying “I want to lose weight” is not a goal, it’s a wish. Telling me your goal is to lose 50lbs in the next 120 days or 100lbs over the next 6 months is more specific and will give you something to focus on. With close to 11,000 patients I can tell you that every single one had a desire to be thinner and healthier and focused on their goal to lose weight every single day. They didn’t wish for it, they took steps…they had a plan…and they took action.

Those who had the most success with their weight loss goals asked a lot of questions, stuck to the regimen and followed our instructions to the “T”. They didn’t try to deviate or say, “this isn’t for me”. No! They stuck it out and continued on the plan.

You see it goes beyond just the weight loss. Yes, losing weight is very important. But, it’s the overall effect that weight loss has on your body that will make the biggest impact on your health and well-being.

Little changes…big impact!

Dropping just 10% of your weight will help reset your body and you’ll start to notice improvements in your breathing, how you sleep, how much energy you have, how walking is no longer a chore and climbing steps becomes easier. But that’s not all.

Major medical worries such as chronic fatigue, heart problems, gastroparesis, Type 2 Diabetes, muscle and joint pain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, colon and kidney failure and many others will slowly improve and you’ll feel better, stronger, thinner and healthier.

Having an end goal.

Saying “Doc not only do I want to lose 50lbs in the next 120 days my ultimate end goal is to reduce the amount of medication I need, control my diabetes and be able to keep up with my kids (or grandkids) without being so out of breath all the time.” Yep, think about your end goal first and everyday take action so that end goal becomes a reality.

Is it easy? No!

You will have to make sacrifices. Giving up those sweets, eating the “fast food” and late night snacking will need to stop. Drinking the “big gulp” sodas will be off the list too. Changing your diet to protein and produce will become your new way of life. Exercising will become your daily habit. Gaining control of your health will be your new obsession. You can do it!

And when you’re ready we will be here to help you.
